If you've ever pulled your bike out of the garage for the first time all summer and then gone on a long ride, or if you've ever hit the weight room hard on January 1, trying to achieve a year's worth of fitness goals in single day, you've probably experienced delayed onset muscle soreness, otherwise known as DOMS.
It's a long name for something that's quite common, and also preventable.
In today's episode of Move Forward Radio, Malachy McHugh, director of research at the Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma in New York, shares his perspective on the effectiveness of many current treatments for DOMS and his predictions for possible prevention methods in the future.

Malachy McHugh is the director of research at the Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma (NISMAT) at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. He leads a multidisciplinary research team including orthopaedic surgeons, physical therapists, exercise physiologists, nutritionists, biomechanists, medical engineers and athletic trainers. He is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, an associate Member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and a member of the Orthopaedic Research Society.
