How the Find a PT Search Engine Works
All clinicians in this database are licensed physical therapists who are American Physical Therapy Association members. They are qualified to treat a variety of symptoms and conditions through higher education, clinical experience, examination, and licensure.
Search Results Based On User-Entered Criteria
APTA makes reasonable efforts to show you relevant results at the top of the provider list using your search terms and information provided by PTs in their profile. However, if there are no providers who match your criteria in our database or your area, the system will show providers that may match your search criteria. After that, it will list any physical therapists within your search radius (up to 20 per page).
Expanding the distance to your search radius may help you find a physical therapist with clinical experience and expertise relevant to your search criteria. Still, there may be no providers in our database or in your area who match or likely match your search criteria. This can occur more often in less populated areas and for some specialized care.
Using Filters
Some physical therapists are board-certified clinical specialists in a physical therapy specialty. Although physical therapists are not required to have board certification to practice in a specialty, board certification can demonstrate extensive experience and expertise in a specific area.
While the providers listed in the results may be relevant to the search terms you entered, using the "show only" filters will narrow results to an exact match for providers who:
- Are board-certified clinical specialists in a physical therapy specialty area.
- Provide telehealth services.
- Offer home visits.
For specialized care needs, you may want to consider seeing a physical therapist with expertise in a specific physical therapy specialty. APTA recommends contacting the physical therapist or clinic to confirm whether they treat your symptoms or condition. They may recommend a colleague who offers specialized care if they don't.
