John Wayne Sharpe, PT, MSPT, MBA

John W. Sharpe is the Director of Spinal Cord Injury & Disorders (SCI&D) Rehabilitation Services at the Hunter H. McGuire VA Medical Center within the Central Virginia VA Health Care System. Mr. Sharpe oversees and manages four therapy disciplines and all inpatient and outpatient therapeutic rehabilitation activities to include, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) clinics. Mr. Sharpe is Board certified in Physical Therapy and he is Board certified in Healthcare Management as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). He previously worked as a Program Manager and was the VA/DOD Academic Affiliations Liaison in the Office of Academic Affiliations for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). As the health professions education training liaison for accredited health professions education training programs between VA and DOD, he worked collaboratively with the 3-military branches in establishing medical resident trainee exchange programs between the two agencies. Mr. Sharpe has established and led panel seminars for the ACHE’s Annual Congress in 2011-2013 and again from 2015 to 2019. He currently serves as the Immediate Past President of the Central Virginia Healthcare Executives Group, the Richmond, Virginia local ACHE chapter. He served his local ACHE chapter as both President-elect and acting President in 2019 and served as President in 2020. Mr. Sharpe is a veteran of the United States Air Force, and he has first-hand knowledge of the exceptional care provided to veterans by the VA; he was a patient for 3-months in1990. Mr. Sharpe’s goal is to remove all barriers and challenges that interfere with rehabilitation therapists providing high quality SCI&D patient care that enhances clients overall quality of life and satisfaction.
